BARK RIVER, MI. JULY 12 & 13
The team went north to Bark River, MI, for rounds 5 and 6 of
the 2008 WSORR season tour. The first action of the weekend
came on Friday afternoon. The #5 E3 Spark Plugs/Lucas Oil
Nissan PRO-Light and #99 Pro-2wd were ready to hit the
track. Getting three solid laps in, Jon and Kevin were both
very pleased with the performance of the trucks. All that
needed to be done was bolt on a fresh set of Toyo Tires for
Saturday’s action.
Saturday:
Saturday morning saw some early morning rain causing
practice to be cancelled. The team got the new Toyo M/Ts on
the truck and waited for the afternoon’s races. “You never
want to cancel a practice and give up extra seat time, but
that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m confident in our
E3/Lucas Oil Team and the job the crew has done with the
trucks” Commented Jon.
The first PRO-Light race of the weekend came to the line
ready to put on a show for the crowd. When the green flag
dropped, Jon and his #5 E3 Spark Plugs/Lucas Oil Nissan
PRO-Light hit the turn in first place. A slight bobble in
the next turn cost him the lead, eventually shuffling back
to fourth place. Just past the halfway point, the two lead
trucks fell out with flat tires, moving the E3/Lucas Oil
truck into the second spot. Unable to gain ground on the
race leader, Jon brought the truck home for a second place
finish. “We had a good run today to get our first podium in
PRO-Light. This E3/Lucas Oil Nissan is just flying out
there. The Toyo M/Ts are hooking up and the Fox Shox are
performing flawlessly.” said an excited Jon after the race.
The excited Probst had his first Speed interview and was
grinning from ear to ear with the thrill of the day.
The Pro 2wd race saw Kevin take the first turn in 4th after
starting on the #8 grid position. Kevin, making moves
quickly and getting to the #2 spot was gaining ground on Dan
V when he spun on lap 2. Giving up 2 spots Kevin made the
passes again for the 2nd position getting within 2 trucks of
the leader. Power steering problems caused trouble on the
white flag (last)lap shutting down the chances to finish the
day on the podium. Kevin ended in 6th. “It was disappointing
to know that you have a great truck and the speed to win
only to have new truck blues take a toll on the day” Kevin
said later.
Sunday’s practice went as smooth as it could with the
E3/Lucas Oil team continuing to perform well. The confidence
building in Jon is apparent from the podium finish in round
5. Some fresh Toyo Tires were mounted and the team was ready
for the afternoon’s races.
Sunday’s Pro-Lite race saw Jon come through the first turn
in sixth position, but an incident involving two other
trucks called for a red flag and a total restart. At the
restart, Jon came through turn one in fifth and dug in for a
charge to the front. Over the next three laps Jon worked up
to the second spot, passing on both the inside and outside
of the turns. Second place is where the #5 E3 Spark
Plugs/Lucas Oil Nissan PRO-Light would finish the race,
rounding out a solid weekend for the Probst Motorsports
team. “I can’t say enough about everyone who helped us get
here. The crew did a great job in giving me a reliable
truck, and I couldn’t be happier to be up here for E3 Spark
Plugs, Lucas Oil, Dixie Choppers, Simply WoW, Toyo Tires and
Fox Shox.
The Pro 2wd was last on Sunday. Kevin started in 7th and
came through turn one in 3rd. A series of problems plagued
the new truck as sticking throttle from big rocks caused
Kevin to spin several times loosing position. Kevin worked
hard but had to settle for 4th on the day.
The next event is Oshkosh, Wi. For rounds 7&8 of the 2008
tour.
