PROBST NEW TRUCK SHOWS SPEED
New Lennox, IL (March 9, 2010) - The 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series officially started with Rounds 1 and 2 in Las Vegas over the weekend. The track was fantastic and the crowd was thrilled by the action on the motocross style track. The jumps were big air and the speeds were fast.

Kevin and the team came to Vegas with a new out of the box UWeld design chassis specifically tailored to the type of racing in the Lucas series. The Pro 2 Unlimited truck, while untested, showed very quick times and drivability. “All the changes we make to compete in this series worked” said Kevin. “The truck, in combination with the new tires from Goodyear proved to be a much needed improvement over last season!”

Testing the truck in practice and qualifying makes for a nerve racking start for a driver’s season, but Kevin’s thirty plus years of experience showed. After the first jump, Kevin said the truck was very drivable, and after the final practice before Round 1, with braking dialed in and Fox shocks set, the team was ready.

At the start of round 1, Kevin took the grid in the sixthrow outside. Turn one saw some action as a tangle and roll over let Kevin make some time and gain position. At the end of the first lap, Kevin was in ninth. Battling steadily with good trucks, Kevin kept pressure on and as mishaps happened, moved forward to the seventh spot by the competition yellow. All the temps were ok, and the new truck was working great. The green fell again, and the action was fierce. Nose to tail, the top trucks were under a blanket. With two laps to go, Kevin made a move past Jeff Kincaid, then 2 corners later passed Rob Naughton to take the fifth position. Kevin finished the first round in the fifth spot.

“We are thrilled to be in the top 5 with a new truck, among some of the nations best racers, like seven- time AMA champions Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Johnson, and Jeff Ward,” said Kevin, “It is a testament to our team and sponsors to be able to finish fifth in this deep field of twney-four drivers. Everyone worked their butts off to get this truck completed in 6 weeks, and with more testing and dialing in, this truck will be great all season!”

Round 2 qualifying/practice session was canceled due to rain Sunday morning, so the grid was set by finish order of Round 1. Kevin Started fifth. The green came and Kevin was running sixth after some tangles in turn one.  The trucks were all fast at the front, with the top 10 within striking distance, Kevin caught a rut just prior to the competition yellow riding the bicycle.

“Having to put a race truck in reverse to come off a wall is never a good thing,” said Kevin, “but doing it with this level of competition really hurts!” Kevin was in ninth on the last lap, and making a pass in the second to last jump/turn out of the bowl, Kevin and Greg Adler make a small space smaller, Kevin got the short straw and the contact turned the #9 and caused an end for end rollover. Kevin’s day ended with spectacular fashion.

“I hope they have that on camera,” said Kevin walking back to the pits“ If you’re going to crash, get it on camera and get some air time for your sponsors!” Kevin was alright after the crash, and all the safety features built into the truck showed to work as designed. “I am glad I have the best safety stuff I can find,” said Kevin, “This crash test dummy stuff is not fun, but sometimes if you race close and tight this stuff happens in our sport, but when you walk away, all is ok!”

The truck had some new arms bolted on and drove in the trailer, so the new truck is tested and ready for any future possibilities that happen in the rough and tumble sport we call short course off road racing!
